All previews today are strictly by the numbers (Mr. Pomeroy's numbers, to be precise):
Game 1 - North Carolina v. Florida St. - Florida State wins by virtue of home court advantage, 76-70 in a fast paced game. When offset against each other, both teams hit right about 1.0 PPP. For FSU, this game might get them a little national attention for a team that is 11-3 and hasn't lost at the Leon County Civic Center. For Carolina, it's a chance to prove they can win on the road, and stop what could turn into a 6-game skid (next 3 after tonight are home against BC and Arizona, and at Maryland).
Game 2 - Missouri St. v. Wichita St. - A rematch of the game the Shockers won by 24 in Wichita. Missouri State needs this game more, as they sit a game behind four teams with 2 conference losses. The points basically balance themselves out, so give the advantage to Missouri State on their home court, because it's tough to win on the road in the 'Valley.
Game 3 - Belmont v. Florida Atlantic - These teams are a mirror image of each other in all respects except style. They have the two most efficient offenses in the A-Sun - 1.036 pps for Belmont, 1.033 for FAU - and two middle of the pack defenses in what is a terrible defensive conference - 1.100 for Belmont to 1.108 for FAU. But they play an entirely different pace to bring about these numbers - Belmont is the 18th "fastest" team in the country with 74.3 possessions a game, while FAU is ranked 211 with 67.3. Whoever gets the other team to play their style of ball emerges as the winner in this one.
